Ric's Jazz Quest Intermediate & Advanced Adult Jazz Orchestra
What is it?
An adult jazz orchestra aimed at intermediate and advanced players for. We welcome most instruments: saxophones, trombones and trumpets, flutes and clarinets are most welcome alongside rhythm section instruments. If someone is adept at violin and wishes to play jazz, then get in touch!
The band has been formed since 2015 and has performed in many events from small intimate functions to large 3,000+ crowds. Most of what we do is aimed at fundraising for the various charities we suppport.
It's all very informal, fun and any musician is welcome to come along.

Instruments
All instruments welcome. Woodwind, Brass, Percussion or String instruments.. Trombones to trumpets, to clarinets, flutes, rhythm instruments and of course all saxophones. We're always on the lookout for trumpets and trombones. Ric is very welcoming of any orchestral instrument player with a jazz interest; such as string or percussion instruments like violin. Instruments that aren't thought of as traditionally jazz but can do so in unique and stunning ways.
What type of music is played?
The band is a mainline Jazz Band covering traditional classics like In The Mood, A String of Pearls & Zoot Suit Riot. We have many modern jazz arrangements, such as Superstition, Seven Nation Army, Moondance & Flashdance. There are also many original works by Ric (about 1/2 of Jazz Quest's modest repertoire are original charts. It makes the band unique, fresh and a contemporary jazz band for events. At our core though we are a jazz band through and through: Jazz. Funk. Soul.
When / Where are rehearsals?
(Usually)1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month @ 3:30PM @ The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (309 Bursledon Rd, Thornhill, Southampton SO19 8NE).

Is the Music hard?
It's not for complete beginner players, no. Ric has another band - Downtown Vibes, that is welcoming to beginner levels. Jazz Quest is for those that can already play and read music and are looking to develop their skills. Improvisation opportunities exist for those wanting to develop and use this skill.

Fee
First month is free - come along and see if it's for you. Thereafter, there's a small monthly fee for members. This pays for venue hire, new music to be purchased, covers Ric's time to arrange and compose new originals. Covers marketing from banners, to leaflets and business cards to band merchandise.
Gigs
We regular perform throughout the year and the band will give you opportunity to play for charity events, concerts and music festivals, as well as other special events.

One off events: D-Day 80th commemorative events for Hound Parish Council 2024. Jazz & Strawberries Summer concerts. Xmas light switch on events for Netley, Eastleigh, Wickham.
Councils we've worked with at events: Southampton, Eastleigh, Fareham, Wickham, Hound Parish.
Charity fundraising highlights include: Mountbatten Hampshire, Operation Christmas Child, Cancer Research, Winchester Women's Shelter, The Melody Initiative. Since the band formed in 2015, over £5,000 has been raised.
