What is it? How do I Join?

Downtown Vibes Rhythm & Blues Orchestra is for beginner & Intermediate players of all instruments interested. Whether you play a rhythm, woodwind, brass or string instrument - you are welcome!
 

There are various options throughout the year to perform, often fundraising for charity. Parts are tailored for your level and will help you improve. Improvisation opportunities exist if you wish

Instruments

All instruments welcome. Woodwind, Brass, Percussion or String instruments.. Trombones to trumpets, to clarinets, flutes, rhythm instruments and of course all saxophones. Baritone sax is especially welcome. Ric is very welcoming of any orchestral instrument such as string or percussion instruments such as violin. Instruments that aren't thought of as traditionally jazz but can do so in unique and stunning ways.

 

What type of music is played?

Blues, Latin, Rhythm & Blues - anything with a groove and that member's want to play. There are also original pieces by Ric composed specifically for the band, keeping the band genre stylised but contemporary also.

 

When / Where are rehearsals?

(Usually) 1st and 3rd Friday evenings of each month @ 8:15pm-9:45pm @ St. Edward's Church, 1 Grange Road, Netley, Southampton,SO31 5FD. 

 

Is the Music hard?

No. It's fun. There are very easy parts for those who can only play a few notes. Parts then range to harder intermediate level playing and include solos and improvisation (for those wishing to develop those skills. There’s a massive variety in musical difficulties in this band and everyone is welcome. It makes the band very inclusive.

Fee

The first month is free for you to trial the band - see if it's for you. Thereafter, there is a small monthly fee, to pay for venue hir, new music, band running costs etc.

 

Gigs

There have been a few gigs throughout the 3 years of this band running and there are There are usually 3-5 events throughout the year that the band performs at, with favourites being council events at Christmas. We've worked with Fareham, Whitely & Hound Parish Council in years past...

 

The rehearsals, with their relaxed social atmosphere to help those new to music or those wishing to develop their skills in music are great - come along for a free rehearsal and try it out.
